Sparking Curiosity: "Be a Chemist!" at NELCM!

Summer is in full swing, and things are about to get delightfully reactive here at the Northeast Louisiana Children's Museum! We are thrilled to announce that NELCM is officially a part of the 2026 GSK Science in the Summer™ program.

In collaboration with The Franklin Institute, we are inviting youth entering grades 2 through 6 to step out of the classroom and into the role of real, working scientists.

This year’s theme is all about the wonderful world of reactions: Be a Chemist!

What is "Be a Chemist!" All About?

This summer, our young scientists will trade their beach towels for lab coats. Through hands-on exploration and exciting experiments, kids will discover exactly how chemistry shapes the world around them.

Instead of just reading about science, they will actively step into different real-world chemistry roles, learning how scientists solve problems, create new materials, and keep our communities safe.

Why You'll Love It

  • Hands-On Discovery: No dry lectures here—just real tools, real experiments, and real fun.
  • World-Class Curriculum: Developed by the science education experts at The Franklin Institute, ensuring high-quality, high-engagement activities.
  • Inspiring the Future: It’s an incredible way to spark a lifelong curiosity and inspire the next generation of STEM leaders right here in Monroe.

We can’t wait to watch our kids ask big questions, make a bit of a mess, and discover the scientist inside themselves. Let's make it a summer of pure discovery!
